Open letters to Dan from his fans continued...
Dear Dan,
I am compelled to write because I need to say "thank you" for what your music has returned to me. I have been a devoted fan of yours since 1975, but 12 years ago I entered into, what unfortunately become a very abusive marriage. Six years ago I was compelled to leave my husband for my son's safety (not to mention my own). So while my husband was away on a business trip, I packed us up and set out on my own. The next 3 months were the worst of my life. My son was suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. He was only 2 years old. He would not speak to any one. He would only sit and rock himself all day long. The doctor feared he may become autistic. Then one day I was on my lunch hour, killing time walking through the music store. I saw your Wild Places CD. I don't know what compelled me to buy it. (Probably rebellion, since I had been forbidden to buy any of your music during my marriage). I didn't have a toaster let alone a CD player. So, I found the cheapest stereo I could find and brought both home. I played the CD over the next few days and after about the 3rd or 4th time, I noticed that my son would come running whenever "Blind to the Truth" and "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" would play. He would sit next to the stereo and rock and listen. So, I began playing it over and over and rocking him in the rocking chair. Soon, he began to smile and laugh. Then he was singing and talking. Your music reached down and touched his very soul. I had my beautiful little boy back!
Today he is a happy, healthy 8 year old. He is a gifted student and excels at academics. He loves music, especially yours. About a year ago, I was taking my son and some of his friends to the movies. One of your tapes was playing. He leaned over and said to his friend, "This is Dan Fogelberg. He's the best musician there is. He's my favorite!" While I know he has no recollection of the days when he was so young, I know he holds a special place in his heart for you and your music. He will carry this with him always, I know.
I have a ticket to your July 30th concert in Saratoga, Ca. I have not seen you in 12 years! I am so excited. I would give anything to be able to thank you in person, but would never dream of intruding upon your privacy. I beg you to never stop writing and producing your music. I know it is difficult for artists to always be creative. But, please know that you touch people's hearts and souls in ways that you may never know. And we are forever grateful to you for this.
I hope that this letter somehow reaches you. And I wish you the best of luck in your search for that ever elusive perfect love. (You're not alone on that road I'm afraid. There's alot of us out there searching!)
Thank You So Much!!
Forever grateful,
Dear Dan,
Like many of the folks writing here, I have enjoyed and
had my life influenced by your music. As a living room
musician, I have sung your songs countless times to
friends and lovers. Thank you for producing such quality
music and touching a part of my soul, as well as
challenging me musically to figure some of your tunes
out.
I first saw you in Atlanta a few days before my sixteenth birthday (Netherlands tour). The Foxx Theater was the perfect setting for the concert. During the show, you played a guitar instrumental "Full Moon Mansion". I was very impressed with it, as I have been awaiting it to turn up on a new album for 20 years. I have seen you four times live since then, and have yet to hear it again. My question is this:Is there a recording of this song? Do you ever play it? If you would like to respond, my e mail address is KCSQRD@aol.com Thanks for helping me endure my adolescence, and providing me with great songs to sing.
Sincerely,
I have written a few times to this page, but somehow I
feel like I don't say enough. Dan, I just needed to tell
you that you gave me a memory that will last a lifetime.
I was at the Cleveland concert, and as the opening act
was playing, I was scanning the stage with binoculars. I
thought it was you standing behind some equipment looking
at the rain clouds rolling in. As I scanned the stage, I
came upon you. Your wonderful face, smiling and talking
to the stage crew. Just as I came upon you, you looked
right at me. I was so embarrassed, all I could do was
wave and you were nice enough to acknowledge me with a
great big smile. You may not remember all the faces you
see on your travels but you gave me a great memory!!
Thanks so much!
Denise

On the eve of your Clearwater concert all I can do is
anticipate the music, words and chills of the experience.
My two sisters and I have been attending your concerts
since my mother would let me go with them. My sister
Sherri and I even got to meet you after your concert in
Tampa (University of South Florida Sun Dome). You were
leaving with some band members in a limo when you had the
limo stopped. You got out to sign some guys guitar and
one of the guys in your touring band called us to come
over. We got another fan to take our picture with you (I
dropped my camera and broke it). We gave the fan our
mailing info and he was a sweetie and mailed it to us. I
am very proud ot that picture, I have it matted and
framed with your autograph on my ticket and the newspaper
add for your concert.
We have front row for Clearwater (Ruth
Eckerd Hall) so if you don't mind, I'll be singing along
with a big smile and warm feelings. Thanks for giving me
calm, and smiles.
Your fan forever,
Shirley (and
Sherri and Sandy sisters)
Mr. Fogelberg,
My husband and I just returned from your concert at Wolf Trap, Vienna, Virginia. We had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed hearing your music live again. We have been to your concerts in the past, and had tickets to the Valley Forge Arena, near Philadelphia, PA. We both look forward to seeing you again. In the meantime, I hope you can release another album with the songs you "teased" us with.
Again Thank you and Godspeed,
Lisa
Dan, I hope you read this....my boyfriend and I are
coming to see you on August 3rd at the Greek Theatre. His
name is Kevin and is really your biggest fan. He writes
all his own music and sounds alot like you. All his
inspiration comes from you and your music. He's been
listening to you since he was a kid and has been playing
and writing music since he was a teen. He just found your
latest 4 disc package with some unrealeased material. His
favorite song is Hearts and Crafts and he never new it
was on the B side of one of your hit songs' 45's. I don't
know what your playlist is or how strict you stick to it,
but would you PLEASE play it on August 3rd at the Greek
theatre. It would mean so much to him.
Thanks,
Carol
Thank you for sharing a little part of your soul with us. Ever on...
To all who have not seen the concert yet, without giving the surprises away - WHAT AN INCREDIBLE CONCERT!!! I saw it twice and, if my husband was as much a fan as I am, would have sen it six times (still, not enough)!!!
Dan, if you ever read these letters, thanks for a terrific evening. I can't get over your guitar playing. Also, was very pleasantly surprised at the "acoustic" songs you played, especially "Nexus"..and,"Beggar's Game..and,... I won't say any more, just THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU LAWRENCE FOR YOUR GIFT OF THIS MOST PRECIOUS "LIVING LEGACY"!!!
I just returned from Cleveland to see Dan in concert at the Nautica Stage. I have seen him many times before but this was a real night of magic. The night was stormy with rain and lightning and everyone was covered with ponchos and umbrellas. Yet from the moment he appeared on stage, his music captured us all. This was the best I ve ever heard Dan sound and he seemed so relaxed and really into it. He often made jokes about the rain or the sound of the barges going by. His selection of music was wonderful with many of the tunes from older albums and a couple of new ones. His voice sounded great! I hope everyone gets a chance to see him somewhere this tour. I wish I could attend another. Does anyone who attended know what the song was called that had the line "the hand that you hold will make you grow old"? Was that the song Fire and Ice several of you have referred to?
I have been a fan of Dan s for 18 years. He has been through every stage of my ups and downs and always seems to have a song that reaches right for my soul. His music is always with me. We played both Longer and Leader of the Band at my father s funeral. Whether hiking at the Grand Canyon or Mount Rainier, I carry with me all of those inspirational songs of the "Wild Places" Dan enjoys so much. I ve often felt that maybe he walked those same paths before. Those Spanish guitar strings reverberate in each crevasse. When at the beach, I can just hear echoes of The Reach over and over.
I just purchased the Portrait CD set and haven t stopped listening to it. Everyone wants to know if there is a Dan Fogelberg marathon going on! I enjoyed the biography that was included as well as all of the comments on the songs. I ve always wished I knew what Dan was thinking when he wrote a song. Although we have many of these songs on other CDs, it is nice to have what Dan thought was the very best recording of each all together. My favorite song is Mountains to the Sea. It is a haunting song which speaks of restless souls and the need to retreat to a special place. It seems that no matter how happy things are or how "heaven-held", others cannot always understand us. This song really speaks to the need to escape alone to a quiet place to think although no answers may be found.
Thanks to my love for Dan s music, I have even taken up learning to play the piano in my 30 s! My teacher thought I was crazy to buy Dan s Complete Song book since the music is so complex. But she doesn t know how much his music can mean to his fans. Someday I ll play them!
Thanks to LuAnn and Pete for creating a place where we can all share our admiration for Dan.
And to Dan, I don t know if you ever see these, but ...Thank you Dan for all of your music. You touch hearts in ways you ll never know. As with fine wine, you are getting better as time goes on. I ll continue to enjoy your recordings and your performances for as long as you share your wonderful love and inspiration with us.

Dan:
We saw you in Cohasset, Massachusetts on June 28th. You really got the audience going.
My wife and I were two of 15 to 20 folks who gathered outside of the dressing room to chat with you. We were disappointed to find out that you had exited out the back door.
We understood why you did not come out and visit with the hundreds of fans trying to get to you during 70's. But not to at least acknowledge the few "30 something" die hard fans after concert in Cohasset, MA is not understandable.
We did get to watch the vendors reconcile their cash and credit card receipts and the talk to the security guards (nice guys) so the after concert activities were not a total loss. Business is after all, business.
Sorry if this sounds a tad bitter. Your songs, and the soul you extended to us through these songs have made a lasting memory of days gone by. We were hoping to get a little closer to those memories and get a glance and possibly a word with the person who made them all happen.
Good luck, keep cranking...
Dear Dan, I'm looking forward to your concert in
Myrtle Beach. I have been listening to your music since
1975 and have attended at least 6 concerts ,all very
different from each other, but wonderful just the same. I
love all of your songs, but Part of the Plan holds a
special place in my heart. Witin a short time, I lost two
people very close to me unexpectedly. It was a chore for
me to get the energy to go to work, which I had to do and
even pretend to be cheerful. I would put in the tape
every morning in my car and play it over and over . By
the time I got to work, I felt I could face the day.
Everything is better now, and I just want to say
thanks.See you next week!
Megan
At Journeys end I bid you thanks. Awareness is of no mind. The fruit of the journey not realized still is love introduced to the ego and will.
Thanks largely to your live long support I am here, I am whole and I belong. I will detain you no more.
Purest love beyond the flesh Calypso
Dan... What can I say that thousands of your fans have not already said? Your music speaks to my soul.....your lyrics speak to my heart.....and I thank you .
Luv, Lori
Dan
The most impressive thing I ever saw in a concert was in Providence, RI in the 80's when you let the band go on break and you brought your stool to the front of the stage and sang "Leader of the Band" with just your guitar and no microphone. You carried the whole civic center. What a performance! I have been a fan since 1978 and just love your music. In fact, our wedding song was "A Love Like This". Thank you for 25 years of GREAT music!
Hi Dan,
Does the Red Lion Inn in Champaign ring a bell? Used to
watch you play there between REO sets. God, what a voice
you had then, and now. I certainly hope that you don't
forget about "home" on your tour. I'll be the
first in line for a front row seat.
Your #1 fan Sharon
Dear Dan:
Who am I to say your songs are not mysterious? I am just
a little person. You are a great poet and musician. I do
think this is more of a technical issue though instead of
a mystery. Plus, these songs will not be
"exhumed," they will be written anew. The ones
you wrote originally have never died, and the one's
you've yet to write will be mystery's captured again.
Please. Some more simple, beautiful songs like Stars,
Looking for a Lady, Be on your Way, As the Raven Flies.
You know, like the kind of songs a bunch of guys (or
girls) jammin on their acoustics on a Saturday night
would play along with songs by James Taylor, Gordon
Lightfoot, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Eagles, Beatles, Mac
Mcannaly, Hank Williams, Paul Simon, etc. Ok. What do you
think? Do I sound like an argumentative know-it-all? I
don't know. I just feel like a lot of the newer tunes
have just been over done with instruments. Just a simple
observation. I miss the simpler tunes. Anyway, no matter
what--I will still be your fan. I have loved your music
for too long to stop loving it now. Being a dreamer of
songs myself, I just can't imagine what goes thru your
mind when you all of a sudden create a line, a verse, a
song that is of the quality you write. To me, it is like
giving birth to a child. A way to create something no one
else has ever created. Something brand new. Talk about
art--wow. It gives me a chill to think about it. You do
it better than anyone and if I could write one song that
is as good as some that you have written--I will have
achieved total self actualization. I hope you are coming
to Nashville this summer. I would love to see you in
concert again. Take care my friend.

Hi Dan,
I could go on and on about how much I like your music, how your voice has gotten me through tough times, how spiritual you are. I won't-'cause everyone else has, and it would be redundent.
What I want to ask you is this- Would you like to go on a turtle walk on July 11th-in between your Fort Pierce and Ft. Lauderdale shows? I live in between the two cities, and am involved with the Nature Conservatory. I can take you on the beach here, and you will see the most incredible 3-4' turtles coming out of the ocean to lay their eggs-its an experience you won't forget.
I am not a wierdo-in fact my son goes to School of the Arts with Jimmy Buffets daughter-I know he is a friend of yours. I live about 1/2 hour from him.
I know you are on tour now, but hopefully, someone will read this and get in touch with you. Then all you have to do is e-mail me, and the rest will be confidential.
Hope to hear from you, An old friend
This is my second time writing, but had to share my impressions of the concert I just saw tonight. Had the pleasure of seeing Dan's concert tour opener at Meadowbrook Theater in Rochester, Michigan. It was full of pleasant surprises, that are lesser known tunes, but certainly familiar to true Danfans. A handful of hits were included to satisfy the others, I suppose. Was really enjoyable to hear such a different variety of songs this time. He even included a couple not yet released that were very nice. Was hoping to hear Wild Places tunes, but no luck with those this time. Guess I'll have to rely on my video of the Greetings from the West tour for those. All in all, it was a relaxing evening of listening to the perfection we've all come to appreciate from Dan. I did have to ask some rude people in front of us to stop talking, and we finally moved out in the rain, rather than be distracted by them any longer. We finally saw them leave before the show was over, and we returned to our seats. The rest of the concert was perfect. You could have heard a pin drop, as everyone listened so respectfully to the gifted artist in front of them. Wish it could have gone on longer, there are so many great acoustic songs that he does. Enjoy if you go!
In the early 1980's, three friends and I planned a trip to Colorado. A friend at the time told me (true?, I know not) that she had once seen Dan Fogelberg playing darts in a bar in a small town in the mountains near Boulder. We drove out, with my friends looking forward to seeing Denver, Boulder, Vale, Steamboat Springs, Leadville, etc., etc. But my plan was to see Dan Fogelberg. My fondest memory was sitting in the Pioneer in Nederland, sipping a beer and watching Star Trek on the bar TV. One friend and I were the only ones in the place on that summer, weekday afternoon, but I could imagine his presence and inspiration as if he were sitting in a corner penning "Wysteria."
Dan Fogelberg's music has been part of my life... From my college days when I would wake my house-mates every morning with "To the Morning" from Home Free, to today, when my 6 year old requests to hear "Song of the Sea" every morning on the way to school.
Thank you Dan Fogelberg, and thanks Pete for giving me this opportunity.
I was a big Dan fan in the late seventies and early
eighties. From 1977-1980 I lived in Central City,
Colorado and then in Colorado Sierra which is between
Central City and Rollinsville. Dan's place was just a
couple of miles from where I lived. My wife and I would
spot him occasionally- I remember once we saw him with
Joe Walsh in a red jeep and honked. I was good friends
with the Frame brothers, Bill Frame sold Dan some
adjoining property to make his place larger. I saw Dan
sit in at an Eagles concert, Denver's Mile High Stadium
around 1976, and also at Boulder's Mackey Auditorium,
probably 1979-80. I was also a big Bruce Cockburn fan at
the time, and well, I'm still a big Bruce fan. But thanks
for the memories...
Paul
Greetings from Nashville Tennessee. I just want to say
how much I have enjoyed Dan's music over the years. I am
a classically trained musician and have a music degree
from SOSC in Oregon. I feel like I know a good deal about
music and am very picky when chosing what to listen to. I
saw Dan in concert two years ago at the Starlight stage
in Nashville and it was one of the musical highlights of
my lifetime. I have a complaint though. Recently, I have
noticed on the albums they have been heavily
orchestrated. I so miss the days when the beautiful chord
progressions and melodies were flowing like Colorado
Spring water--i.e. the "Home Free" and
"High Country Snows" albums. Dan, if you are
listening--please go back to the beginning again and
re-live it. Find some more of of those simple, beautiful
melodies and lyrics that you used to have. You don't need
the woodwinds, brass. Just beautiful simple arrangements
seems to enhance your music more than a glob of
instruments. Good luck my friend and I love your music.

What a wonderful way to celebrate a man, his music and his life. It's nice to see so many people sharing their experiences and memories associated with Dan. I can't imagine what it would be like to touch so many people!!!
I have to wait for the new cd...... somebody wants to buy it for my birthday. I'm very impatient.... I have only bought two cd's and I am resorting to my old record albums!
I have seen Dan two times in concert but both were with bands in large arenas. I have always wanted to see the acoustic show in a smaller theater and my dream will come true on July 10 in Melbourne, Florida. I don't have the greatest seats (Ticketmaster wouldn't sell me a seat at his feet!) but it really doesn't matter. I'll be there!
Dan Fogelberg has a special place in my heart. His music is part of me and I can never get enough of him. He makes me laugh, he makes me cry and he makes me smile!
I had to be the first to purchase his newest release.....it is 4 discs that are packaged perfectly......the closest Dan will be to Pittsburgh is in Cleveland....I will be going there June 25 for his concert at Nautica Stage and I can't tell you how absolutely excited I am.....I love this man.....Dan you have been an inspiration and my love and thanks are with everyday......Denise
Okay, okay, I'm another truly devoted Dan Fogelberg fan. I've been a fan for nearly 20 years. His music is all that the other fans described and beyond. II, too, have the complete collection, albums, cassettes, cds.l 'll be attending the Dan Fogelberg concert on June 29 in Wallingford, Ct. and I cannot wait. It will be the third time I've seen him in a solo performance but each time is as exciting as the first. I only hope that the seats we have this time are as great as the ones in the past. I''m amazed at how many people don't readily know the name when you tell them who your favorite performer is. It's their loss!!!! If I could say a few things to Dan they would be: You're such a great performer. when you're on the stage, you captivate us all, but time passes so quickly. It's like running into an old friend and trying to get 20 years of "catching up" crammed into 2 hours. You feel so content, yet wanting the moment to never end. It's like catching up with your first love." Auld Lang Syne". I'm originally from Maine so of course"The Reach" conjures up so many fond memories every time you perform it. Hope you include it in your repertoire this time, too. Every time my husband and I take a trip to and around Bar Harbor, I can picture you out in one of those sailboats, sailing around the islands. Maine is beautiful and glad you are able to be a part of it. Hopefully, you'll continue to be inspired to write other great songs there. The first concert I ever attended was in Springfield, Ma. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and when you started performing, the baby started kicking. I'm guessing she was as excited to hear you as I was. My two children have grown up listening to you. My husband has only attended four concerts in his lifetime, and they''ve all been yours! Like many others fans have mentioned, your songs have conjured up all sorts of memories. Listening to any one of your songs always bring me back to a special place, a certain memory. I' ve read that you are a photographer, too. Perhaps you'd consider sharing some of your favorite photographs as part of your concert tour. We'd all be interested, I'm sure!! Well, I don't want to get too corny here or too sentimental. I'm really looking forward to seeing you at the Oakdale on June 29. >From Belchertown, Massachusetts, but forever a "Mainiac". Tupikoc@aol.com
The new release "Portrait: The Music of Dan Fogelberg"...all I can say is BRAVO!!!!!!! Especially the bio inside.....it is about time that we found out a little more about someone so talented. It is divided up into four perfect CD's....the hits, the ballads, rock & roll and tales & travels.....Don't Lose Heart and Mountains to the Sea are fantastic...Hearts and Crafts especially touched my heart....Dan, don't ever give up your art.......I do hope that your restless soul finds a place.... Denise Campbell-Pittsburgh,PA
Dan: I wouldn't even try to put into words what your music has done to/for me over the last 20+ years. I literally "grew" up with your music/moods. Something in your voice and lyrics grabbed hold of me and never let go. You got me through some really major moments in my life. I look forward to each new CD before you even have in mind to make one! ha! Please keep it up. What a gift. You truly are in a class all your own. Peace, Susan
In 1994 I sent a fax to Dan Fogelberg at the auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska where he was scheduled to perform. Meant to be humorous in nature, the fax included the "Top Ten" reasons he should schedule a concert in Des Moines, Iowa.
About two months later I was listening to the radio at work when lo and behold, a commercial came on announcing the upcoming Dan Fogelberg concert at the Des Moines Civic Center! (I was convinced it was Top Ten Reason Number 5 that did the trick: "We're so desperate for entertainment in Iowa that hundreds of people stood out in the rain at the Iowa State fair to see Barry Manilow." UGH!)
Typical of my luck, I had planned a trip to Phoenix and was scheduled to leave the morning of the concert. But after thinking about it for about 2 seconds, I did what any real woman would do. I ate the cost of changing my low-fair plane ticket, charged the best available seats on my already-maxed-out credit card, hired a babysitter, and told my husband I'd divorce him if he gave me any crap about it!
The show was awesome (it was the "River of Souls" tour and my fourth Dan concert) and worth all of the grief I took from my family and friends.
Dan, if you're out there in cyberspace,
on behalf of all of your midwestern fans.... please
schedule a few concerts in our neck of the woods before
your acoustic tour is over. AND DON'T FORGET ABOUT DES
MOINES!!!
Lisa
in Des Moines
Is he coming to Phoenix????????????????????? I could not
vote for a favorite album. I don't really have a
favorite. Each one holds a special place in my heart. I
do love the new Box Set that I purchased the day it came
in. It is truly wonderful. I have been listening to Dan
since 1975. Someone turned me on to Captured Angel, which
I love. Since then his music has been with me through the
good and the bad. I too am a poet/songwriter. One thing I
like about the Box Set is that Dan tells of what was
going on when he wrote the song - I have been waiting for
this for years. It also has a plethora of songs, tells of
Dan's life, and has new songs as well as old that were
previously unreleased. I also own the video of the Live -
Greetings From The West tour - - - BUY IT. It too, is a
wonder to behold. He is truly a unique artist. His
different styles are truly refreshing - - - Easy
Romantic, Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Rock & Roll,
Symphony - - - Gaining Love, Losing Love, Losing Self,
Finding Self - - - Life - Death - And All Points Between
- - -
If you find out tour dates for the Phoenix area, let me know at Dan has inspired me to try different writing styles. I have included some here. Hope you enjoy.

Every Li'l Thang You Do
This time, I write no words of style.
My voice is true to you all the while
I still search mile after mile
To express why you make me smile.
This time, I'll be more simplified.
More down to Earth, this time Ive tried
To express myself, in you confide.
The way you make me feel inside.
Ya don't know what it does to me.
Every lil thang ya do.
Ya don't know how it pleases me.
Every lil thang ya do.
If this is only just a taste ...
of every lil thang you do.
Tell me girl,
What must a country boy do
To stay with you?
This time, I will still compliment.
Oh sweet girl, you're heaven sent.
Angelic features on you were spent.
In my head and heart you've taken rent.
This time, what can I possibly say,
To let you know that I feel the way
I do right now, warm as a summers day.
Thoughts of you chase any blues away.
Ya don't know what it does to me.
Every lil thang ya do.
Ya don't know how it pleases me.
Every lil thang ya do.
If this is only just a taste...
of every lil thang you do.
Tell me girl,
What must a country boy do
To stay with you?
This time, I hope I've found it girl.
I pray it's not just another whirl.
How do we help the love unfurl?
If you know, please tell me girl.
This time, I write no words of style.
My voice is true to you all the while.
I'd walk all night, mile after mile,
To bring to you a smile.
To bring to you a smile.
Ya don't know what it does to me.
Every lil thang ya do.
Ya don't know how it pleases me.
Every lil thang ya do.
If this is only just a taste ...
of every lil thang you do.
Tell me girl,
What must a country boy do
To stay with you?

Won't you be my fire, baby
I want to know what you're feeling,
Tell me girl, is this romance
the band plays such sweet melodies
how long would you like to dance
what makes up your inner dreams
how can we fond memories make
what can I do or say to you
to stir your soul, your spirit shake
let me be your fire, baby
come on in and feel the heat
let your heart burst open darlin'
I promise you I'll not retreat
won't you be my fire, baby
'cause girl you sure heat me up
you're startin' now to fill it woman
to fill up my lovin' cup
the time goes by, I grow yet fonder,
thoughts of you like fires surge
engulf my soul, I am excited
my passion builds, from depths emerge
I fear to tell you what I'm feelin'
I fear I may push you away
I long to pull you even closer
'cause sometimes life's a winters day
let me be your fire, baby
come on in and feel the heat
let your heart burst open darlin'
I promise you I'll not retreat
won't you be my fire, baby
'cause girl you sure heat me up
you're startin' now to fill it woman
to fill up my lovin' cup
I know it's hard to give your heart
it's hard to trust, it's hard to love
tender moments, cautious footsteps,
seeking guidance from above
I place my bet, I play my hand
take a look, please search my eyes
life's a risk, yes life's a gamble
heaven holds love as the prize
let me be your fire, baby
come on in and feel the heat
let your heart burst open darlin'
I promise you I'll not retreat
won't you be my fire, baby
'cause girl you sure heat me up
you're startin' now to fill it woman
to fill up my lovin' cup

It's growing, this page is really turning into something Dan should be proud of, I'm sure if he has came here he has written to thank you for the effort on his behalf you have put into this site. Thanks For The Site Pete!!!!
Wow, I was long winded the last time I wrote, (refer to last book I wrote in here) and will make this much shorter. Dan has touched us all, he's given and given, and I for one respect and treasure all that he has done for music today. It's so great to know that I get to see him back to back nights this year, I'll be at the Hard Rock and then at the Greek the following night. Portrait is one awesome box set, it's a wonderous showing of the endless gifts he's given us the fans over the last 25 years...( Dan if you e.mail Ex President Bush's address I'll Buy another copy of Portraits to send him...LOL!!!! Great song!!!!) Democracy is a gutsy song that we each should listen to and understand that all in this great country isn't what it seems...Thanks for the inspiration of a life of caring about others and nature Dan...!!!
Dear Danfans, My name is Chris Corcoran. This will hopefully be a succesful e-mail as I have had troubles with my account. First off I would like to thank Pete for maintaining a page us Fogelberg fans can look to. If it was not for this page I would not have been able to get my tickets for the July 6 Atlanta show. I saw the dates listed and immediately went and made a purchase. I'll be towards the front for the show(orchestra pit, I'm told) so anyone can look for me and my friend Tdod who'll be there. We'll also be the ones in the parking lot the day of the show playing our guitars and tailgating like its a Jimmy Buffett show. If no one objects i'd like to share my encounters with Dan's music. My first encounter came when I was six years old. I remember being in my mom's station wagon and hearing this song I swore was from the film "The Empire Strikes Back." I argued with my mom until she told it was Dan Fogelberg sing "Heart Hotels." I don't know why I made this connection but the song always reminded me of the beginning of the movie. Well, the 80's came and went and i didn't get to hear much Fogelberg music. I spent to much time watching MTV and listenting to people like Duran Duran and Motley Crue. But this story has a happy ending. Now I must fast forward to the spring of 1996. I am now in college at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. This was my third year hear. One night myself and two friends decide to go get something to eat and just get away from the dorm. Somehow we ended up at Denny's. We started to reminisce about our favorite music from when we were kids. Dan's name came up but we could not figure any songs he did. I was trying to describe "Heart Hotels" to my friends but I didn't know the title. Our next move was to the listenening station at the record store. We Disovered "The Innocent Age" and my song was not there. it was and still is a good album. One of his best. But I had to find the song. Next we came across his greatest hits release. It was track number two. I had finally found it. I could go on all day about this man's music. That spring we stayed up all night in our schools ampitheatre and played his albums. In the past year i have acummulated all his albums and have been trying since June 3, 1997 to get the boxset. No luck. I'm told I can expect it next week. I'll finish here by saying that if anyone wants to share a story with me they can e-mail me. I'll reply to all I get. Chris Corcoran
My husband and I have our tickets for the Oakdale Theater
concert in Wallingford, CT. on 6/29. I can hardly wait. I
listen to Dan in my car (actually, he is the only one I
listen to) and my little girl is becoming quite a fan as
well. My husband and I are attending the concert at the
Beacon Theater in N.Y.C. as well and may possibly be
getting back stage passes! If I actually got to meet Dan,
even just to say "Hello, you are the best!" I
would carry that moment with me forever. After my
marriage to the most wonderful man in the world, and the
birth of my precious daughter, being face to face with
Dan would be the happiest day of my life. I am praying
daily that my wish may come true.
Congratulations Jack and Bill and best wishes. One of my nieces sang Dan's rendition of Judy Collins' song "Since You've Asked" at our wedding and it was wonderful. I also used portions of his song "Forefathers" as part of my mother's eulogy - I must say there was not a dry eye. As soon as that song came out, I played it for my mother and she thought it was wonderful as I did.
If there are any "DanFans" out there who are going to the Oakdale concert in Wallingford, CT. on 6/29, my husband and I would like to get together either before or after the concert - just send an E-Mail and let us know. To be completely honest, I only know of one other person in my area who is as taken with Dan as myself, yet, every concert I have gone to has been packed so you all must be hiding somewhere.
Can't wait to see you Dan! Solo acoustic is going to be the best yet!!

I have no idea if you, Dan Fogelberg, will ever lay
eyes on this. But I'll give it a shot anyway! I simply
thought that I would let you know, along with everyone
else on this page, how grateful I am for your music. I
seem to have known of you for most of my life (I'm 25
years old). But I recall my first real encounter with
your music. It was in a school classroom, believe it or
not. The year was 1984, and my Public Speaking teacher
was using "Leader of the Band" as an example of
a ballad, which is a form of storytelling. She passed out
a sheet with the lyrics, and I was really touched. Then
she played the song--perfection! I don't believe that I'd
ever heard anything so beautiful. My next encounter was
that same year, when one of my dance instructors popped
in a tape with "Twins Theme" on it for our new
dance recital number. It turned out to be a fantastic
jazz and ballet dance. Since then, my appreciation for
you has slowly grown. Now I can safely say that you're my
favorite, along with company such as Billy Joel, Elton
John, Garth Brooks, Sarah McLachlan, and R.E.M. As a
result, I am taking a "road trip" from St.
Louis to Indianapolis to see you this summer. My husband
thinks I'm crazy and have some sort of a crush on you. I
can't seem to explain to him that it's much deeper than
that; it's spiritual. Your music truly touches my very
soul. No one's art has ever affected me as wholly as
yours. On my wedding day (just 3 weeks ago), I was calm
as can be. Everyone (including myself), expected me to be
a bundle of nerves since I'm somewhat of a control freak.
But I know why I was so calm. I spent about 2 1/2 hours
before the wedding by myself, with your music. It has a
way of "centering" me and soothing me. So
here's yet another "THANK YOU," from another
die-hard fan. If you only comprehend one-tenth of the
contribution that you have made to our lives, you should
be a very proud man.

Thank you Pete for your letter, love your page on Dan
Fogelberg, I know all his fans appreciate your efforts.
He is such an elusive personality, which maybe makes us
seek him all the more.Hope he gets the chance to read
about himself, and all the love his fans put into their
letters, I thought I was the only true lover of Dan until
I got on-line and started reading other letters, gosh we
all feel almost the same thing, it is amazing that so
many people love him and he still does not get the
recognition he deserves....well maybe that will change
now that you have us organized and writing...Is there a
fan club?...somehow I think that would be against Dans
principals, but if there is one I want to join...have
written to his management company, but did not get a
response... Did you get the article I sent from our local
radio station? have not checked to see recently if you
put it in...Had a friend send it, we do not have a
scanner so she just typed it through, don't know if it
will be ok or not.. well, waiting for the new C.D to come
out and desperately praying the concerts will go on as
planned, and nothing will happen to keep me from
going...you can put this letter in too if you want, I
want him to know how much we adore him and his dedication
to the music.
Thanks Pete.......Carol
Well, it's Sunday morning, and I've just rolled out of bed. Wandered over to the CD player, got out my favorite Fogelberg CD, Captured Angel, and popped it into the tray. Hit 'play', and was immediately carried away to a place that only Dan's music can take you. I proceeded to pull out every other CD of Dan's that I own (which is all of them), and did my own version of Fogelberg's greatest hits. Each and every song takes me to a specific place and time in my life, as only his music can. Some happy, some sad. I'm sure I'm not alone in this feeling. He is coming in concert about a month from now to my home here in Utah. Playing his music on the side of a mountain resort we have here. About as perfect as it can get, and fitting for his music, certainly. Planning on going to the concert, even if I have to go by myself. Dan, if you ever read these posts, I have to say, "Thank you for your music, and your stories from the road". Thank you for the impact that your music has had on my life, and on the lives of millions of others. Thanks for taking me away and lifting me up. And, hey, if any of you read this, and feel the way I do about Dan's music, feel free to email me, and tell me about it. Maybe we can go to the Fogelberg concert together!! :-)
Hi Pete and fellow danfans, I'm new at this internet thing but thought I'd like to pass along a note about the time I was able to meet & talk briefly with Dan Fogelberg. I saw him in Seattle about 3 years ago at the Paramount Theatre. Along with many others I waited in the rain by the stage door hoping to be able to meet Dan. His band came out and were all real nice to everybody, including Tim Schmitt of the Eagles, touring with Dan at the time, just prior to the Eagles' reunion. They told us Dan would be awhile as he has many friends wherever he goes and they typically gather back stage. About 3 hours later he finally came out, there were maybe a dozen of us left by then. He could not have been more gracious and accommodating, especially at 2:00 am. He was interested in everyone and what they had to say, I was just about the last person he spoke with before getting into the limo. He acted as though he had all night to talk. He seemed genuinely interested in knowing me, introduced me to his wife, and remembered my name when we shook hands and parted company. I have 4 sons and I have told them that when they are grown, if a stranger who respects and admires them were to seek them out, I hope they will treat that person with the dignity & respect that Dan showed to his fans that night. He will be in Seattle again in August and I'm taking the kids to see him. I'd like them to see the man who's music has so greatly influenced their dad, before Dan says "enough" and retires to the ranch. Anyway, I've said more than enough, thanks everybody for listening.
Sincerely,
Tim Ogard
Dear Dan,
So many times over too many years, I have resisted the notion to write you;thinking for the most part that to do so would be corny and merely a repeat of what you hear every day of your life. But something has led me to at least reach out in this fashion with a heartfelt thank you for sharing your gift with me and with the countless fans who appreciate your musical paintings and the messages they offer.
I was born in Lousiana but my father moved my family to Nashville so that he could make a name for himself as a studio musician. He has had an unbelievable career, and through him I have met some wonderful and talented people over the years. When he brought home a promotional copy of "Home Free" , I remember my entire family sitting around the den, totally quiet, and totally in awe of what we were hearing. From that day forward, we have all been hooked line and sinker, and have followed your career to the present.
It amazes me that I have met and know very well many Nashvillians whose lives have touched yours in some way, yet by some cruel twist of fate, I have never had the opportunity to meet you. I feel that in some way we are family, I guess because you shared some of my most intimate moments, the precious times I will never forget, and the saddest and most lonely hours I still dread to recall.
Thank you for your entire body of work, but especially for " Stars", part of my high school morning ritual, for "Dancing Shoes", the French phrases that inspired me to become fluent in French, "Lessons Learned" that heard me sob into my pillow over my first lost love, and for your interpretation of "Since You've Asked" which was sung at my wedding.
May your life be blessed as you have so generously blessed others. You are a gift from God to a world needing understanding and healing. Thank you for caring enough to be a teacher and an inspiration!

I called in to get my tickets to see my favorite
musician of all time~Dan Fogelberg~ he is abosutely
wonderful. My husband and I will be going to the Melborne
concert and the Clearwater one too, we are so anxious
because we were so dissapointed about last years injured
finger. We go to every concert we can, other entertainers
just can't compare to Dan. His voice is sheer
perfection,I find myself holding my breath through most
of his songs. My husband loves his guitar playing, says
he is fantastic. We have been fans for well over 20 years
and have every thing he has ever done that we can find. I
can't say how sad I am about his seperation from his wife
recently, I feel he was the happiest he had ever been
while they were together and I hope if there is any
possible way to find their way back together, they will.
We are praying for him and his happiness. anyway, we hope
to see him in concert and as he is up on that stage
looking out at his fans that he will remember that we
love him, support him and hope he will find the path to
follow toward his happiness, whatever and with whomever
that may be. We love you Dan. Don't forget it:
Carol
I was sitting home with the worst head cold in the world, so I thought I would "surf" the web. I put in Dan Fogelberg and was shocked at what I found!
I have always been trying to find my "Kevin Bacon Connection" to you, Dan. I was born and raised in Boulder, CO; used to overlook Caribou Ranch in the 70's from a friend's cabin near Nederlands (Glacier Lake to be specific); and spent many a day in the mountains "searching for my destiny".
My destiny ended up in Toledo, Ohio. (ugh...) But, I am happily married to a very rich man, so it compensates for having to live here. I also have 2 great, smart, wonderful kids (one is currently looking over my shoulder and making fun of me...)
I recently vacationed in Beaver Creek at the Hyatt, and saw your picture on the wall with all of the other famous people. I thought maybe that would be my "Kevin Bacon Connection", but I'm afraid Beaver Creek is a little too ritzy for my taste. It didn't seem worth buying a condo just so I might run into you.
Anyway, maybe my "Kevin Bacon Connection" can come true through this e-mail. I am going to visit my mom with my family from July 11 - 21st. I know you will be around because of your Red Rocks concert. We can set up a place to meet so I can boost your ego even more than all these letters prior to mine have. (Sorry if I sound sarcastic - it must be my cold from hell making me be so mean.) I really am a nice person that would probably be a babbling idiot if I ever did see you.
Make my dreams come true and e-mail me, so that my life can be complete! (As if you ever read this page...). Boy, I really am in a cranky mood.
Love and Kisses,
Janet Chamberlin
Dear Dan,
Thanks for the music. I have been fortunate to have been
listening to you since the fall of 1973. I just love
"Homefree", with my all time favorite being
"Stars". Like everyone that has written here,
your music also touched my soul. It was like you were
reading my thoughts, and emotions. Again, thanks for
being you and providing us with great musical moments.
I have been lucky enough to have seen you in concert 5 times, while having to be disappointed with a cancelation another time. I am really excited that I have tickets to see you this summer in Indianapolis on June 24th. Really looking forward to it!
I could never fully express how much I appreciate your music and your talent. Please continue for a long time!!!
Hi Dan
Like so many others who have written, your music has
inspired me and been an intregal part of my life. I have
turned on many of my friends and family to your music as
well. Last March my significant other and I had a
commitment ceremony, got married. One of your songs was
part of the ceremony. It was a tremendous day filled with
love and support from family and friends who travelled
from all over the country to be here. Your music had been
part of our relationship as together we spent many nights
listening to your music, playing the guitar and singing
your songs, and discussing the messages. It only seemed
right that you were part of our special day. The song is
"A love like this" which is exactly how we feel
about each other. Thanks for transforming the world in
such beautiful way. I look forward to seeing you this
summer here in San Diego.
Jack (&
Bill)
