Lyrics
The Language of Love
She says no
When she means yes
And what she wants
You know that I can't guess
When we want more
You know we ask for less
Such is the language of love...
I say leave
When I mean stay
But she don't see
And so she moves away
What we really want
You know we rarely say
Such is the language of love.
It's tooth for tooth
and eye for eye
We hide our hearts
And then we won't say why
It's truth for truth
and lie for lie
Such is the language of love.
One cries foul
And will not speak
The other claims a little victory
And all the time
You know we fail to see
This is the language of love.
When a loves begins to wander
No one ever knows
But we feel it deep inside us
Long before it shows
Long before it shows.
We hem and haw
We balk and bluff
Our words don't ever seem to
say enough
But a simple smile
A tender touch
Speaks the true language of love.
When a loves begins to wander
No one ever knows
But we feel it deep inside us
Long before it shows
Long before it shows.
She says no
When she means yes
And what she wants
You know that I can't guess
When we want more
You know we ask for less
Such is the language of love
Such is the language of love...
Back
Windows and Walls
Up every morning
Long before day
Cooking her breakfast alone
She quietly dresses
And pulls up the shades
And sits in the chair by
the phone.
But nobody ever comes
by anymore
Nobody ever calls
Most days she sits and
just stares
At the windows and walls
Windows and walls.
Children all married
Husband's passed on
Nothing but time on her hands
Most of her mornings
Are spent in her dreams
Or making her sad little plans.
Maybe she'll go to the
corner today
And pick up the new McCalls
If just to escape for an hour
From her windows and walls
Windows and walls.
The clock on the mantel
Chiming the hours
Must be the loneliest sound
She washes her dishes
and waters her flowers
And afterwards has to sit down.
Sometimes she still can
remember a child
Playing with china dolls...
Now all that she's left
Are these memories and
windows and walls
Windows and walls
(day after day)
Windows and walls.

The Loving Cup
So many try to capture love
And so many never do
So many hearts are lost
With never a clue.
So many nights are passed
in sorrow
So many days go by
So many lovers lose
And never know why.
Still the lovers in the
backseats claw
And still the wives wait up
Everybody's trying desperately
to fill their loving cup.
All through the night
We thrust and parry
Letting our best sides show
Then in the morning light
We lie and let go.
Everyone searching for somebody
Someone to kiss and tell
More often than not
Our heavens turn into hell.
Still the lovers in the
backseats claw
And still the wives wait up
Everybody's trying desperately
to fill their loving cup.
So many try to capture love
And so many never do
So many hearts are lost
With never a clue.
Everyone searching for somebody
Someone to kiss and tell
More often than not
Our heavens turn into hell.
Still the lovers in the
backseats claw
And still the wives wait up
Everybody's trying desperately
to fill their loving cup.

Tucson, Arizona (Gazette)
Tucson, Arizona
Rising in the heat like a
mirage
Tony keeps his Chevy
Like a virgin locked in
his garage
He brings it out at midnight
And cruises down the
empty boulevards
And he prowls the
darkened alleys
That snake between the city's
thirsty yards
The lonely desert skies reflect
the anger in his eyes
And it is dawn.
His father died of drinking
And left five children sinking
With his mom
His older brother Bobby
Never made it back from Viet Nam
With high school well behind him
He lives at home and works this
shitty job.
And he thinks his '60 Chevy
Is the only true amigo
that he's got
His heart is filled with sadness
And his soul is like some
ugly vacant lot.
Mary Estelle Hanna
Came out from Louisiana
for the sun
A deal gone bad in Dallas
Left her burned and broke
and on the run
To make the rent and groceries
She takes this job at
$3.15 an hour
Serving shots of whiskey
and tequila
In some smoky red-neck bar
And she dreams some day
she'll make her way to L.A.
And become a movie star.
Tony saw her working
He swallowed hard and asked
her for a date
Mary laughed and answered
"I would but every night
I'm working late"
He said he had some cocaine
That she could have if she'd
just ride along
She said "What the hell,
I may a well
I haven't had no fun in
so damn long"
He picked her up at closing time
They pulled out on the road
And they were gone.
Tony's mom got frantic
When she found her son had
not come home
Mary's roommate panicked
And called the sheriff from
a public phone
They asked her lots of questions
She tried her best to tell
them what she saw.
And late that night
they found poor Mary
Lying in some narrow,
dusty draw
And the coroner reported
that she hadn't been
Deceased for very long.
Two weeks on they found it
Buried to the windshield
in the sand
There inside lay Tony
With a small revolver in
his hand
The papers simply stated
It must have been the
drugs that drove him mad
The neighbors speculated
What could make a good boy
go so bad?
Well, it might have been
the desert heat
It might have been the
home he never had.

Let Her Go
A bad situation
Right from the start
She played me for a fool
And she broke my heart
An infatuation
A hard loss to take
But we all must make our
own mistakes.
Let her go
I knew I had to let her go
You know it wasn't easy
It was painfully slow
But I swear I finally
let her go.
All of these feelings
Were so long ago
I haven't felt a thing
since I let her go
But you don't believe it
You still have your doubts
And while you do the
tension mounts.
Let her go
You know you got to let her go
You know it's never easy
It's painfully slow
But you know you got to
Let her go.
I will not deny it
I tried to hold on
But human hearts can only
stay broke so long
I told you the truth
How much more can I do
Now, my love, it's up to you.
Let her go
You know you got to let her go
You know it's never easy
It's painfully slow
But you know you got to
Let her go.
Let her go
You know you got to let her go
You know it's never easy
It's got to be slow
But you know you go to
Let her go.

Sweet Magnolia (and the Travelling Salesman)
Two hearts
Throwing off sparks
Young and in love with
our freedom
Moonlight,
Those soft, southern nights
We were both ripe to fall.
I was
Out on my own
Playing for all who
would listen
You were
As free as a bird
Flying from nest to nest.
But somewhere our eyes met
And our hands reached out
And we felt a kindred spirit
And as our faces touched
I could feel the fire
And needed so to just
be near it.
Oh, Lord
Those moments we soared
Borne on the wings of
our passion
It seemed then
Like they'd never end
But times like that
always must.
'Cause then one day I flew
Far away from you
I never knew how I'd regret it
My sweet Magnolia belle
You know I've loved you well
Even if I never said it.
Magnolia, now I see
That freedom isn't free
And love's the only true
redeemer
And when this journey's
through
I'll be coming back for you
If you'll have this
foolish dreamer.
I spend
A night now and then
Passing through town on
my travels
But someday
I'm gonna come back to stay
Magnolia, I'm coming home.

Believe In Me
If I could ever say it right
And reach your hostage heart
Despite the doubts you harbor
then you might
Come to believe in me.
The life I lead is not the kind
That gives a woman peace of mind
I only hope someday you'll find
That you can believe in me.
Those other loves that
came before
Mean nothing to me anymore
But you can never be quite sure
And will not believe in me.
Too many hearts have been broken
Failing to trust what they feel
But trust isn't something
that's spoken
And love's never wrong
when it's real.
If I could only do one thing
Then I would try to write and sing
A song that ends your questioning
And makes you believe in me.
Too many hearts have been broken
Failing to trust what they feel
But trust isn't something
that's spoken
And love's never wrong
when it's real.
If I could only do one thing
Then I would try to write and sing
A song that ends your questioning
And makes you believe in me
Oh, you can believe in me.

Gone Too Far
World spinning out of control
The odds diminish every
die we roll
But we are still in the game
If we should lose there's
only us to blame.
Or have we gone too far
Am I just wishing on a
dying star
Oh, tell me--have we
gone too far?
Look 'round you
What do you see
Six billion people where there's
room for three
So many mouths go unfed
Oh Father give us all
our daily bread.
Or have we gone too far
Am I just wishing on a
dying star
Oh, tell me--have we
gone too far?
Each year we find newer ways
To turn this planet into
empty space
So close now to zero ground
We've got to find a way
to turn it 'round.
Or have we gone too far
Am I just wishing on a
dying star
Oh, tell me--have we
gone too far?
Or have we gone too far
Am I just wishing on a
dying star
Oh, tell me--have we
gone too far?
